Have you ever wanted to leave everything behind, get into a van, and travel around, living a free and easy life? No deadlines, no boss yelling at you, no heavy responsibilities on your shoulders? Welcome to VanLife Simulator, where life revolves around two things: a van and endless roads. But don’t think this game is all about dreaming and chilling. There are hundreds of things to worry about when traveling long distances, from gas, food, health to… going to the bathroom in the middle of nature.
Introduce about VanLife Simulator
VanLife Simulator is a simulation game that lets you experience the nomadic life in your van. Here, you have an old van, some spare change in your pocket, and a map of untraveled roads. No permanent home, no steady job, just days on the road, making a living and enjoying freedom in your own way.
Life in a Van
When you start VanLife Simulator, you will only have a rickety van, out of gas, and nothing inside except a temporary sleeping place. To turn it into a real home, you have to earn money and upgrade each part. For example, a larger gas tank will only unlock after driving 500km, if you don’t have it, you can expect to run out of gas on the road and have to walk to find a gas station. The solar panel system is not free either, you need to survive 7 days without staying in a motel to qualify for it, and with the battery, you will have electricity to charge your laptop, cook, and turn on the lights in the van. And if you want a mini fridge to store food, you have to earn your first $1000 from freelance work.
Food is important, but if you can’t survive 15 days on canned food, you won’t be able to afford a gas stove. Even driving is not easy. If you haven’t gotten stuck in mud at least three times, you won’t be able to unlock the off-road tires to get on a bad road. Older vehicles break down all the time, so don’t expect to keep driving without repairs. If the damage is too severe, one day the van won’t be able to continue its journey.
Money doesn’t grow on trees
Money doesn’t grow on trees, and there’s no such thing as a regular paycheck in VanLife Simulator. You have to work to get gas, repairs, and food. Freelancing is a popular option, but it’s not easy. First, you need a laptop, which you can only buy after saving $500. Once you have a laptop, you still need to find free wifi at a coffee shop or library. Work isn’t instant either. You have to practice for at least 5 days before you can start making money from writing content, designing graphics, or programming.
If you want to make money faster, you can do manual labor. For example, if you spend all your money for the first time, you will unlock the dishwashing job. Construction worker requires a stamina level of 70+, and motel cleaning only appears after you have slept in one at least 3 times. Another option is to sell travel photos, but don’t expect to make money by taking random photos. You need to buy a professional camera for $800, and you must have taken at least 50 photos with your phone before you can buy it.
Earning money is hard, but spending money is always fast. If you spend it lavishly for a few days, you will be stuck eating instant noodles to get by.
Food is also extremely important
At first, your diet will be extremely limited. With no stove or refrigerator, you can only survive on canned food, bread, and bottled water from the gas station. But if you work hard, you can unlock more convenient ways to eat. Once you have a gas stove and a mini-fridge, you can cook in your van. If you visit the lake three times, you will unlock the fishing feature, where you can catch fish and grill them. A little tip: If you visit the market at the end of the day, you will sometimes see stalls leaving old vegetables for free.
Eating also affects health. If you only eat canned food, your character will lose strength and become susceptible to illness.
Explore the world of VanLife Simulator
VanLife Simulator doesn’t force you to follow a set route, but the more you explore, the more cool features you unlock. For example, your map starts out as a simple piece of paper, but if you visit at least 10 locations, you’ll have a more detailed map.
Along the way, you’ll meet interesting characters like the mechanic, who only appears if your van breaks down twice and will fix it for a cheaper price. If you chat with other nomads enough, they’ll share tips on how to live a nomadic life. However, don’t be too trusting, because if you have more than $2,000 in your pocket, you might encounter a scammer and lose your money.
There are also secret locations that only open when you meet the requirements. For example, if you sleep outside 10 times, you will find an abandoned town. If you drive at night for three hours straight, you will unlock a secret road. And if you eat canned food for five days, you will discover a hidden restaurant that normal players cannot easily find.
You will meet many people on the road
In VanLife Simulator, you’re not always alone. You’ll meet all kinds of people on your travels. There are kind people who are willing to help you out when you’re in trouble. But there are also scammers who are just waiting to take the little money you’ve saved. There are small towns with friendly residents who will invite you into their homes to tell you about their lives. If you’re smart, you might even find a group of like-minded people who also live in a van and share their travel experiences.

Compared to a chill-out entertainment game, VanLife Simulator is probably more like a survival test. If you don’t plan carefully, you’ll quickly find yourself in dire straits, with your van breaking down on the road and no money to fix it, or so hungry that you have to pick up free food at the market. But if you play it right, know how to earn money, save money, and take care of your van, you’ll gradually unlock a true nomadic life, where every trip is a memorable experience. Do you have the patience to build your own van life?
