Jacob King has never believed in the supernatural. To him, the world is just a series of events with cause and effect, no ghosts, no miracles. But that was until he found an old walkie-talkie in his garden, a dusty device, without batteries but still emitting sound. And then, a voice from the other side: “Can you hear me?” From that moment on, THE TALKIE officially opened, becoming the door to a nightmare. A story with no way out, where words not only convey messages, but can also awaken things that should never be heard.
Introduce about THE TALKIE
THE TALKIE is a unique interactive game that combines film, fiction and gaming to create a unique storytelling experience. You play as Jacob King, a novelist struggling with the loss of his wife in a car accident. His life changes when he discovers an old walkie-talkie in his garden, connecting him with Sarah, a mysterious woman. Together, the two uncover the mysteries surrounding the device, leading the player through a story full of emotions and choices.
THE TALKIE is a story for the lost
Jacob King was once a successful fiction writer. His life was filled with words, the colorful stories he weaved on the pages. But then tragedy struck. His beloved wife, Emily, died in a horrific crash, leaving him alone in a house once filled with memories.
One night, amidst the fragments of memories and the endless pain, Jacob discovered an old walkie-talkie in his garden. There was nothing special about it, it was just an outdated device that had been forgotten over time. But when he turned it on, a voice rang out from the other side. An unfamiliar voice with anxiety: “Can you… hear me?”
The woman called herself Sarah. She seemed to be stuck in a place that she couldn’t explain. Each conversation, each question slowly led Jacob to a truth that was more terrifying than he could have imagined.
Gameplay
There are no breathless chases or intense combat scenes, but THE TALKIE chooses to keep players locked in silence and dialogue. The gameplay revolves around communicating via walkie-talkie, where every choice can pull you deeper into the vortex of unsolved secrets.
You’ll have to choose how to respond to Sarah, everything, from simple questions to life-and-death decisions. When Jacob suspects her existence, you can choose to confront her directly or subtly guide the conversation to find clues. A white lie can open the door to the truth, but it can also send you down a dead end with no way back.
There are moments when Jacob questions the walkie-talkie, why is it in his garden? Why does it work when it’s so old? Sarah’s answers aren’t always clear. Sometimes you’ll get a distorted audio track, a reply cut off mid-sentence, or worse, a long pause before another voice joins the conversation. A voice you’ve never heard before.
Clues hidden in the dark
While the main gameplay is dialogue-based, THE TALKIE still has other interactive elements that help you delve deeper into the mystery. While chatting with Sarah, Jacob can search his house for clues, from old photos, to Emily’s diary, to seemingly meaningless objects. There are papers with scribbles he doesn’t remember writing, and objects that seem to have been moved when he wasn’t looking.
Sometimes, Sarah will describe a place she believes she has been, and you have to match that description to objects in Jacob’s house. Sometimes she will mention a clock on the wall, but when Jacob finds it, the clock’s hands have stopped at the time of Emily’s accident. Sometimes she will describe a book with a blue cover, but in Jacob’s hands, the book has a red cover. Is it a memory error on Sarah’s part, or is something playing with Jacob’s reality?
Every little detail can be the key to unlocking bigger mysteries, but sometimes the truth isn’t what you want to find.
The feeling of a never ending nightmare
There is no single right path in THE TALKIE. You will be drawn into a vortex that will only get more confusing the more you learn and ask questions. Every choice will change the course of the plot, and also affect Jacob’s own perception of reality.
There were moments when he wasn’t sure if the conversation with Sarah was real or just a hallucination caused by the pain of losing his wife. There were moments when the radio emitted distorted sounds, voices that weren’t Sarah’s, sentences cut off by gasps as if someone was listening to them both.
Is Jacob really talking to Sarah, or is he just a pawn in a game he doesn’t even understand? And if he continues to listen, continues to trust that voice, will he eventually find the truth, or simply lose himself?
Graphics and sound
THE TALKIE uses a highly artistic hand-drawn visual style. The scenes are designed with cool colors and sharp strokes, creating the feeling of stepping into a dramatic detective book. Dark rooms, small but haunting details such as a clock stopped at a certain hour, a painting with eyes that seem to follow you, all contribute to creating a tense and somewhat mysterious atmosphere.
The game’s soundtrack is a mix of somber piano melodies and haunting silences. There are no explosive beats or screams, but every crackle from a walkie-talkie, every whistling wind through a window is enough to give you goosebumps. The character voices are performed by professional actors, bringing real and vivid emotions. Sarah’s voice has a mix of fear and despair, making you wonder who she is? And more importantly, does she really exist?
