LEGO Jurassic World goes from ancient times to chaotic times
Before we get into the specifics, it’s worth mentioning the way LEGO Jurassic World has brought all four Jurassic movies together in one game. That means from Jurassic Park (1993) to Jurassic World (2015), all the classic moments, emotional plot twists, and heart-stopping escapes from dinosaurs are recreated. But because this is a LEGO game, instead of being scared out of your wits, you can laugh at the silly yet charming comedy.
The game does not have a separate storyline, but is divided into four campaigns corresponding to four movies. Each part has about 5 missions, a total of more than 20 levels. You will experience the journey from the time John Hammond invited a group of scientists to see the dinosaur park, to when Owen Grady had to run for his life because of the giant Indominus Rex in Jurassic World.
Each mission is designed with all the same plot as the movie, but with a ton of fun LEGO elements added in. For example, instead of being chased by a T-Rex in fear, you might watch it eat ice cream or slip on a banana peel before chasing you.
Gameplay
As a LEGO game, LEGO Jurassic World’s gameplay mechanics follow a familiar formula:
- Puzzle: Use each character’s special skills to overcome obstacles.
- Smash: Everything around can be smashed to get LEGO pieces.
- Build: Recreate the environment or create objects to help overcome challenges.
- Escape: Because obviously, the dinosaurs are not here to play with you.
That’s easy to say, but once you get into the game, some crazy situations come to light. For example, there’s a level in Jurassic Park where you have to help Dr. Grant escape a Velociraptor by playing hide-and-seek with it. Instead of running around, you have to sneak across shelves, throw things to distract it, and then run away.
One commendable point is that the game not only focuses on action elements, but also has a crafting and park management system. You can breed dinosaurs, build cages, and upgrade Jurassic World to your liking. But be careful, because if you are not careful, you may create an Indominus Rex that can be invisible and then cry when it destroys the whole park.
Diverse character system
One of the most notable features of LEGO Jurassic World is that you can control dinosaurs! In addition to over 100 human characters from the four films, the game also allows you to play as any dinosaur! Maybe a cute and silly one like Compsognathus, but who wants to be at the bottom of the food chain? Of course, we’re aiming for something as big as a Spinosaurus or at least a T-Rex!
If you play as a human, each character has their own abilities, like Owen Grady can train Velociraptors, while Ian Malcolm can… play tricks with lights to attract dinosaurs. But the best part is still controlling dinosaurs. You can play as a T-Rex and destroy everything in your path, or use Velociraptor to solve puzzles. There is a stage in the game where you have to fight a T-Rex with a Spinosaurus!
Unique dinosaur breeding mechanism
No one who watched Jurassic World was impressed by how they created the Indominus Rex from the DNA of multiple species. LEGO Jurassic World lets you do the same!
There’s a lab where you can breed dinosaurs, changing their colors, adding skills, and even splicing DNA from different species. The result could be a neon green Stego-Rex, or a Triceratops with dragon-like fangs. While this mechanic is mostly for fun, the thrill of creating a two-headed dinosaur or the tail of an Ankylosaurus is incredible!
Huge open world
Outside of the main quest, LEGO Jurassic World features an open world with two main islands: Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna. You can freely roam around, do side quests, unlock dinosaurs, or just drive around and do whatever fun things you can think of in this wonderful place. There are plenty of things to discover, like dinosaurs roaming around, or mysterious eggs scattered around waiting for you to collect.
Graphics and sound
Imagine a dinosaur theme park with lush jungles, state-of-the-art laboratories, and giant T-Rexes, all built from square LEGO bricks. LEGO Jurassic World offers a vast, colorful open world, with a detailed and square design, true to LEGO. Trees, buildings, and vehicles are all assembled from tiny bricks, creating a feeling of both familiarity and novelty. The dinosaurs are the same, looking fierce but can grin or act silly at any time.
As for the sound? Don’t underestimate LEGO! The game uses a soundtrack as epic as the Jurassic Park movie, making every chase or escape scene more thrilling. The roar of the T-Rex, the “squeaking” sound of LEGO bricks being crushed, even the sound of you sneaking around to escape from the Velociraptor, all are carefully crafted to bring a humorous and realistic experience.
